Supported survey file formats for review and export
An at-a-glance guide to the survey files SurveyMarkup can read, review or export today, the pilot formats, and what is not supported. For the canonical, always-current matrix, see the Supported Files page.
Advisory and unverified — not for survey deliverables. A registered surveyor must confirm any output before it is relied on.
What SurveyMarkup can flag or organise
- Whether a file type can be reviewed today
- Which exports are available for handoff
- Pilot vs. public availability
What it cannot prove or certify
- It does not guarantee a lossless conversion
- It does not certify any exported file
- It does not read scanned, image-only PDFs
Inputs you can review now
Plain-text .rpt and .txt reports in the Report Reader, and coded linework in the Map Linework workspace. Original files are not modified.
- .rpt and .txt reports
- Coded linework (CSV-style inputs)
- Selectable PDFs in pilot
Exports for handoff
Map Linework can export CSV, DXF, GeoJSON and KML as reviewable working files. Report Reader and PDF Markup produce review summaries.
Not supported
Scanned, image-only PDFs are not supported. SurveyMarkup is a review and handoff aid, not a converter that guarantees output, and nothing it produces is a survey deliverable.
A user checks whether their files can be reviewed today.
What SurveyMarkup surfaces
- .rpt / .txt review now (about 25 MB)
- Selectable PDF in pilot (about 50 MB); scanned PDFs are unsupported
- CSV / DXF / GeoJSON / KML advisory exports for handoff
Reviewer's call: The user picks the right tool for each file and treats every output as an unverified working file.
Frequently asked questions
Does SurveyMarkup convert files?
It reviews and prepares files for handoff. Some exports (e.g. CSV to DXF) look like conversion, but they are advisory working files, not a guaranteed converter output.
Can it read scanned PDFs?
No. Only selectable (text-based) PDFs are supported; scanned, image-only PDFs are not.
Are exports final deliverables?
No. Exports are working files for review and are not survey deliverables.
