Q01What is SurveyMarkup?
SurveyMarkup is an advisory review aid for survey data QA: reading plain-text survey reports, linking PDF evidence to findings, running data-quality checks on coded map linework, and previewing Australian CRS options. Every result is advisory and unverified.
Q02Is SurveyMarkup a cadastral compliance tool?
No. SurveyMarkup does not certify cadastral compliance, legal boundaries, survey accuracy or coordinate correctness.
Q03What does "advisory and unverified" mean?
Advisory means an informational hint to speed up review. Unverified means a tolerance or measurement result has not been confirmed against the applicable standard. Nothing becomes trustworthy for deliverables until a registered surveyor confirms it.
Q04Does SurveyMarkup change my raw survey data?
No. Your original file is preserved and never modified. SurveyMarkup is a review layer; you remain responsible for checking original data and every output.
Q05Why is registered surveyor sign-off required?
SurveyMarkup is a checking aid and cannot make the professional call. It never sets a result as surveyor-confirmed on its own. A registered/licensed surveyor must review and sign off before any deliverable, lodgement, or legal/cadastral decision.
Q06Which export formats are supported?
Map Linework supports advisory CSV, DXF, GeoJSON and KML exports, and Report Reader/PDF Markup produce advisory review summaries. Exports are working files for review — not survey deliverables and not a compliance certificate.
Q07Which report files are supported?
The Report Reader currently supports .rpt and .txt files. Text-based PDFs are handled by PDF Markup in pilot.
Q08Does the Report Reader support PDFs?
The Report Reader accepts .rpt and .txt files and parses them in your browser. Text-based PDF evidence is handled separately by PDF Markup, which is in pilot; scanned/image-only PDFs are not supported.
Q09Does SurveyMarkup support Australian coordinate systems?
SurveyMarkup includes preview support for GDA2020, GDA94, MGA zones 49-56, AUSGeoid and AHD. Coordinate outputs remain unverified — confirm them before any professional use.
Q10Where is my data stored, and should I upload real files?
Please do not upload confidential or real client data during the public beta — use the synthetic sample files. Report Reader parses .rpt/.txt in your browser; Map workspace state may be stored locally (e.g. IndexedDB). PDF upload and account-based processing are pilot/demo server/account workflows. During public beta, use synthetic or cleared test files.
Q11How do the AI explanations work, and are they safe?
AI explanations are clearly labelled and generated from the engine's own output, shown unchanged. The AI does not invent numbers or change tolerance results — numeric guards stay on. Treat AI text as an explanation aid, never as a verification. AI usage is rate-limited and capped.
Q12Does the optional standards assistant or Google basemap send my data to a third party?
No client survey data goes to either. If the standards assistant is enabled, only your typed question and excerpts of public surveying-standards text are sent to a third-party AI provider (OpenAI or Moonshot) — never your uploaded files, coordinates, or review findings. If the Google basemap is enabled, only the standard map-view parameters needed to fetch tiles are sent to Google Maps Platform; no survey data or file contents are sent. Both are optional and inactive until enabled.
Q13Are payments active?
No. SurveyMarkup is invite-only and free during the pilot — there is no public price and no checkout, and access never depends on payment. If paid plans are introduced later, commercial terms are agreed with invited firms before any charge. The only payment that exists today is an optional one-off pilot support payment, handled by Stripe on Stripe-hosted pages so card details never touch our servers.
Q14How do I get pilot access?
Request pilot access through the contact form. Pilot participants get early access to upload-based workflows while everything stays advisory and unverified.
Q15Can I use SurveyMarkup for survey deliverables?
No. Use it as an advisory review aid only — it is not for survey deliverables. Professional review by a registered surveyor remains required before relying on any output.
Q16Does SurveyMarkup certify or guarantee my survey?
No. SurveyMarkup never certifies or guarantees a survey, and it never self-certifies. It produces advisory, unverified findings to support a registered surveyor's review.
Q17Does SurveyMarkup support GDA2020 and MGA zones?
For preview only. It can surface GDA2020, GDA94 and MGA zone 49–56 metadata so mismatches are easier to catch during review. Coordinate correctness stays unverified and must be confirmed by a registered surveyor.
Q18Can I export DXF for CAD or 12d-style workflows?
Map Linework can export advisory CSV, DXF, GeoJSON and KML as working files for review and handoff. They are not survey deliverables, and SurveyMarkup is not a 12d plugin or a replacement for 12d.
Q19Is SurveyMarkup a Bluebeam alternative?
It is a narrower, survey-specific advisory review workflow for evidence-linked PDF review — not a full replacement for Bluebeam's broad AEC collaboration platform.
Q20What file size can the Report Reader handle?
Up to about 25 MB for .rpt/.txt in the Report Reader; PDF Markup (pilot) accepts selectable, text-based PDFs up to about 50 MB. Please use the synthetic samples during the public beta.
Q21Does SurveyMarkup run in my browser?
Report Reader parses .rpt/.txt in your browser, and the map workspace may store state locally where applicable. PDF upload and account-based processing are pilot/demo server workflows. Your original files are not modified.
Q22Is there an API or automated QA?
Not in the public beta. SurveyMarkup is an advisory review aid — there is no automated QA sign-off, and a registered surveyor must confirm any result before it is relied on.
